Mission and Concept of Ukraine’s Participation

The theme chosen for Ukraine’s presence — “Filling in” — reflects the country’s aspiration to fill the cultural gaps caused by war and historical silencing, and to ensure that Ukrainian voices and texts are heard within the broader European context. It underscores that Ukrainian literature is an integral part of global intellectual discourse.

The national stand will be located in Hall 4.1, Stand F79/80, showcasing over 300 titles from 38 Ukrainian publishers, including A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-HA, Vivat, Folio, Summit Book, Nash Format, Litgrunt, and others.

The official opening ceremony on October 15 at 11:00 will feature acting Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine Tetiana Berezhna, Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Oleksii Makeiev, and Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair Juergen Boos.

Cultural Program and Professional Focus

Throughout the fair, the Ukrainian stand will host about 30 events — book presentations, author talks, discussions, and meetings with literary agents and publishers.

As part of a special professional program for publishers from Ukraine and neighboring countries, there will be training sessions and networking opportunities aimed at strengthening professional competence and fostering cooperation. The program is supported by the Goethe-Institut and the Frankfurt Book Fair.

A key focus of Ukraine’s participation will be on Ukrainian classics in translation. Publishers will present curated lists of classical works recommended by leading scholars, along with translation samples and rights catalogs, to promote Ukrainian literature abroad.
